Richmond County School System (RCSS) Chef Kanesha Roberts was named a Top 10 Finalists for the 2027 Georgia Teacher of the Year during a surprise presentation by State Superintendent Richard Woods. This honor follows a rigorous multi-stage evaluation process that measures their classroom excellence, leadership, and ability to serve as an ambassador for public education.

Dr. Malinda Cobb, superintendent of schools, says, “Chef Roberts represents the very best of what it means to be an educator in the Richmond County School System. She challenges her students to pursue excellence while making sure they feel supported, valued, and capable of achieving their goals. Being named a Top 10 finalist for Georgia Teacher of the Year is a remarkable honor, and we are incredibly proud to see her passion for students recognized at the state level.”

Roberts is a culinary arts teacher at George P. Butler Comprehensive High School who is known throughout the school system for her "students-first" mentality. In addition to her culinary curriculum, she serves as a mentor, senior advisor, and homecoming coordinator, ensuring her students are prepared for both the kitchen and the world.

"I’m so overwhelmed and incredibly surprised right now,” said Roberts on receiving the honor. “It is a privilege to serve this school system and these children every day. To be recognized as a Top 10 finalist for the state is an honor I share with my entire Butler High family."

As a finalist, Roberts will now participate in a final round of interviews as the state committee prepares to name the overall 2027 Georgia Teacher of the Year.
